New Vacuum?

I'm in the market for a new vacuum. I inherited an Oreck a few years ago from my dad. He found it at a pawn shop about 10 years before that....It hasn't been getting the job done and with 2 dogs we have a lot of shedding hair on our hard floors. It is really grossing me out. The Oreck wasn't "sucking" anymore so I took it to the Oreck store near by and the guy informed me that it was about 24 years old. He said he cleaned it and replaced a few parts, but its still not making me happy. Time for a new vacuum.

I've been doing some looking around online and found that most people choose Dyson brand over most. I like the look of them, and from the reviews I am REALLY wanting one. They are close to $400 though (OUCH) I just can't see myself spending that much . I told my mom to keep an eye out in the Sunday papers/sale sheets and hopefully if I wait it out, I can catch one on sale.

What type of vacuum do you have? Do you have hard floors or carpet? We have about 90% hard floors in our house so I need something that gets good reviews on both carpet and hard floors. Specifically something that does well getting up dog hair.

A friend of mine just posted that she found a brand new Dyson at a pawn shop....maybe I'll go pawn shopping. I just know I do not want a used vacuum this time. I was okay taking my dad's old vacuum b/c I knew the house it came from, but I'm not about to bring someone elses house "smell" into my house. No way Jose.

Suggestions, please!!

This is my favorite so far! I just love the little owl. I'll be putting this one in the mail for my sweet baby cousin that was born a few weeks ago. Her bedroom is done in owls and it's too precious.

So, I've been sewing for a while now and really enjoy it. I'm not super great, and I tend to stick to simple things, like blankets, pillowcase dresses, hemming things, and replacing buttons. I have a lot of fun doing it, and I always look for new ideas of things to try.

Well - I like to have names stitched into things, especially new baby gifts and it gets pricey to take your item down to an embroider and have a name put on it.......sooooo........I splurged and bought my own embroidery machine!! It came via UPS on Friday afternoon and I had SO much fun playing with it ALL weekend! I have downloaded new fonts and designs online and can't wait to try them all out. Maybe I'll start a little embroidery business.... ;) Here is a bit of what I did this weekend.

My daughter is a bully....

So Tuesday when I went to get Cori from school he teacher pulled me aside to tell me they had a really bad day. Cori was hitting, pushing & biting her friends all day - I was extremely embarrassed and didn't know what to say. I told her teacher I would have a talk with her (but in my head I was thinking...."how do you really get a 2 y/o to listen & pay attention enough to remember the next day she needed to be nice to her friend")

On the short drive home we talked about how when we got home she would be in time out for 3 minutes and we were going to talk about her bad behavior at school. So we did. It is hard to take her seriously b/c she obviously doesn't care much about being in trouble. She says things like "Is it funny now?", "You're not mad no more", "I can get out now??", "Is it over yet? and then sings the rest of her time out...stomping her foot and having a grand ol' time in time out.

Oh lord, what do we do?

Here is a video of her being cute in time out.....I'm trying to sound very stern, if you can't tell.

(Wednesday morning on the way to school we talked and she assured me that she wouldn't hit, push or bite her friends or her teachers and that she was going to be nice. Her teacher said she had a better day, but still not "perfect angel" status like normal......
